Chinese, Mongolian presidents exchange greetings on anniversary of friendly treaty

Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged congratulatory messages on Thursday with his Mongolian counterpart Nachagyn Bagabandy to mark the 10th anniversary of the signing of a treaty on friendly cooperation between the two countries.

The Sino-Mongolian treaty on friendly cooperation, which has set a political and legal basis for the development of friendly cooperation between the two neighbors, is a milestone in the history of bilateral relations, said President Hu in his message.

Over the past 10 years, the Sino-Mongolian relations have developed smoothly with mutual understanding and mutual trust deepened and their cooperation in various fields strengthened under the spirit of the treaty, said Hu.

The establishment of a good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust announced last year marked a new era in relations between China and Mongolia, he said.

China hopes to join hands with the Mongolian side in further promoting their good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust in the new century, Hu added.

In his message, Mongolian President Bagabandy said the treaty, signed in 1994, has set the principles for developing the Mongolia-China friendly cooperation under the new circumstances, reinforced the legal basis for furthering bilateral ties, and laid a solid foundation for the development of their bilateral relations.

He hoped the two countries will expand their friendly cooperation in various fields in line with the spirit of the treaty.
