Student slayer ordered to compensate victims' families

University student slayer Ma Jiajue was ordered to pay supplementary compensation to the parents of three of his four classmates he is accused of murdering,according to a court judgment announced Wednesday.

Ma should pay the families of Tang Xueli, Shao Ruijie and Yang Kaihong 20,000 yuan (about 2,400 US dollars) each in supplementary compensation, according a verdict of the Kunming Intermediate People's Court in southwest China's Yunnan province.

Ma was convicted of killing four of his classmates and putting their bodies into a dormitory closet. He was caught on March 15 onthe southern island province of Hainan after police offered a 200,000 yuan (24,000 US dollars) reward for information leading to hisarrest.

The 22-year-old student was sentenced to death last Saturday, and the written verdict reached Ma Wednesday.

The families of three deceased students demanded compensation for the expenses of funeral affairs, loss of working time, accommodation and transportation. The court sustained their demand.

The family of Gong Bo declined to demand compensation.
