The National People's Congress Standing Committee's interpretation on clauses of annexes of the Hong Kong Basic Law and decision on issues concerning methods for selecting the HK Chief Executive in 2007 and forming the Legislative Council in 2008 accord with the Constitution and laws and are reasonable.
Vice President Zeng Qinghong made the remark Thursday when meeting with a delegation of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions headed by its President Cheng Yiu-Tong.
Zeng spoke highly of the federation' active participation in Hong Kong's social affairs and devotion to Hong Kong's economic development and social stability, saying the implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle and the Basic Law has been generally good since Hong Kong's return to the motherland.
"All the central government's policies and measures on Hong Kong aim to maintain the long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong, and serve the well-being of Hong Kong compatriots," he said.
The NPC Standing Committee's interpretation and decision accord with Hong Kong's reality and the step-by-step principle, he said, noting the NPC Standing Committee, with great responsibility for the country, Hong Kong and the people of Hong Kong, made the decision very cautiously.
Zeng expressed his wish the federation would become an important patriotic and Hong Kong-loving force for the social stability and economic prosperity of Hong Kong.
