Chinese President Hu Jintao has urged the whole people to learn from the spirit of "Model Workers", those who have been awarded by the government for their selfless contributions to the nation.

Hu made this call Friday while visiting workers of the Panda Group, one of the electronics giants in China, and had a meeting with some national "Model Workers" in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, east China.

In the meeting, Hu called the working class the main force for the reform, opening and modernization drive as they have made enormous contributions to the country's economic development and social progress.

"Model Workers" are the excellent representatives of the working class, he noted, adding, "The Party and the people are grateful to you."
