Sharon's disengagement plan defeated in Likud referendum

Israel Prime Minister ArielSharon's disengagement plan was defeated in Sunday's Likud Party referendum.

Israeli Channel 1 poll found 62 percent of Likud members voted against the proposal, while just 38 percent voted in favor.An Israel Radio poll found 59 percent of registered voters opposed the plan, while 40 percent supported it.

Other Israeli media also released similar results.

Just an hour earlier, Sharon's aides admitted that it is likely that Sharon's disengagement plan will not pass the Likud referendum.
