Peres calls for new elections after Sharon's defeat in Likud referendum
font size

Israel Labor Party chairman Shimon Peres Sunday night said his party decided to propose new elections following a defeat for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan in Likud referendum, Israel Radio reported.

"It would be unacceptable for a small group of people to make decisions for the rest of the country," said the former prime minister.

"We propose elections and dissolving the Knesset (Parliament)," he added.
