UK PM discusses Iraq with UN envoy in London
font size

British Prime Minister Tony Blair met with UN special envoy to Iraq Lakhdar Brahimi in London on May 3 for talks on Iraq's future, the Downing Street said.

Blair held talks with Brahimi for about an hour at his official country residence at Chequers west of London, a Downing Street spokesman told reporters.

"They discussed the current situation in Iraq and Mr. Brahimi' sideas for the way forward," the spokesman said, declining to reveal further details about the talks between Blair and the top envoy of United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Brahimi, who was expected to head to Iraq this week, is now leading a UN team to help prepare an Iraq interim government to take over power from the coalition on June 30 and lead Iraq's future elections.
