The Macedonian State Election Commission (SEC) Friday formally confirmed that Branko Crvenkovski,candidate of the Social Democratic Alliance of Macedonia and the incumbent Prime Minister, was elected new Macedonian president, the MIA news agency reported.
A total of 909,289 or 53.64 percent out of all the legal votersexercised their right to vote, and there were 29,793 invalid ballots, the SEC announced, adding that Crvenkovski won 550,317 votes, while the other candidate, Sasko Kedev of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE party, won 329,179.
The SEC concluded the final results of the second round of Macedonian presidential elections, conducted on April 28, just after receiving the decisions of the Supreme Court on the complaints over the voting process, submitted by the authorized representative Kedev.
The early presidential elections, organized after the tragic death of President Boris Trajkovski, are the third since Macedonia' s independence.
