LegCo motions against NPC decision unlawfulA leading official with the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong warns Hong Kong's Legislative Councilors. The leading official says it was noticed that a Legislative Councilor had tried to advance a so-called "strong condemnation" motion, and another tried for a so-called "regret and discontent" motion with the NPC Standing Committee decision. He says the moves do not accord with the LegCo's constitutional status as a local legislature and go beyond the limit of its duty and authority. The NPC Standing Committee decision favors modifying the existing methods for selecting the Hong Kong chief executive in 2007 and forming the Legislative Council in 2008, and rules out the possibility of universal suffrage for the upcoming elections.
