China greets its Red Cross Society's centennial

China celebrated its Red Cross Society's 100th anniversary on May 8, with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao sending greetings and Vice Premier Wu Yi attending the celebration, along with many representatives from red cross societies in other countries.

Premier Wen said in his greetings that the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) has made immeasurable contributions to society in the past 100 years and he hoped the RCSC would go on making efforts torealize the nation's revitalization and world peace as a whole.

Vice Premier Wu said at the anniversary celebration that China will, as always, support the RCSC, and try to solve problems it faces and thus to provide broader room for RCSC.

Before the celebration, Wu met with Jean de Courten, vice president of the International Committee of Red Cross and Markku Niskala, secretary general of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, as well as representatives from other countries and regions including Hong Kong and Taiwan.
