font size

Two miners were killed and nine others injured in a gas explosion Friday at Xiayukou coal mine in Shaanxi Province, local officials said Sunday.

The injured, who are suffering burns, are receiving treatment at the hospital of the Hancheng Mining Administration, where medical experts in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi, have been sent to help cure them.

The gas explosion occurred at 06:50 p.m. Friday when the 11 were carrying out a maintenance operation in the pit.

A panel from the Shaanxi Provincial Mining Safety and Supervision Bureau is investigating the cause of the accident, and production has been suspended in the coal mine.
