Chinese bio-scientists worldwide to convene discussing academic frontiersThe Society of Chinese Bio-scientists in America (SCBA) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) plan to arrange the 10th SCBA International Symposium from July 19 to 23 in Beijing. CAS Vice President Chen Zhu, also executive chair of the symposium organizing committee, said here Sunday that advancement in life sciences makes a better life for human beings, and it's wise for the Chinese to allocate enough resources to research on life sciences. Chen, a CAS academician, is also a world-recognized bio-scientist. More than 400 participants, including some Nobel laureates, are scheduled to discuss stem cell mechanism, molecular biology, cancer gene therapy, clinical and therapeutic immunology, HIV vaccine, advances in SARS research and modernization traditional Chinese medicine. SCBA President Jean Chen Shih and President of Beijing University Xu Zhihong are co-chairs of the symposium. Four to five plenary sessions as well as 55 workshops are expected to be organized, together with an exhibition on bio-technology and products during the symposium. After that the participants will go to Shanghai for meeting on promoting traditional Chinese medicine worldwide. The SCBA, established in 1984, has more than 2,500 members. It has organized nine international symposia on bio-science. |
