Susilo, Kalla optimistic to win Indonesian presidential election

The pair of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonoand Yusuf Kalla officially registered with the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) as presidential and vice presidential candidates on Monday claimed to be optimistic to win the race.

"The coalition of three parties, the Democratic Party, the Crescent and Star Party and the Indonesian Justice and United Party, officially registered my presidential candidacy and Yusuf Kalla to be vice presidential candidate for the period 2004 - 2009," Susilo said in a press conference after completing the registration process in the KPU this afternoon.

"By the support of people and our constituents to our nomination, we are optimistic, we have a chance to win the presidential and vice presidential contest," Susilo said.

Susilo explained his priority in building Indonesia in the nextfive years to be safe, peaceful, justifiable, democratic, and prosperous.

The former general Susilo is the former coordinating minister for politics and security in President Megawati Soekarnoputri's cabinet and Kalla is the former coordinating minister for people'swelfare and poverty alleviation, who is also a senior politician of the leading Golkar Party.

Kalla's nomination is supported by his Golkar Party, which obtained the most votes in the April 5 legislative election.

Kalla is also a businessman who have strong background in business.

Regarding settlement of separatist movement such as that in Aceh province, Susilo said he would rely on a peaceful solution based on enhancement of security if elected.
