The Second China Agricultural Trade Fair will be held from Oct. 11 to 15 in Beijing, according to an official from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Fan Xiaojian, vice-minister of agriculture, said at a preparatory meeting here Tuesday that the fair this year will pay close attention to the quality and safety of agricultural products.

Fan said that the issue of quality of agricultural products is of great concern domestically and internationally. The Chinese Government has put the issue high on the agenda.

The fair, held once a year, is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture with the assistance of other government departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce.

At the fair, the exhibition area will be divided into four sections featuring crops, animal husbandry, aquatic products, and agricultural tools. The sponsor will also launch a series of forums, round table meetings and training courses on topics such as food safety, deep processing of agricultural products, and marketing.

At last year's fair, more than 300 domestic companies and 30 big companies from overseas displayed their products. About 10,000domestic and overseas buyers and another 200,000 visitors attendedthe fair.
