Vice-premier calls for Inte'l cooperation in plant protection

The consolidation of plant protection and control of agricultural biological disasters are ofgreat importance to world food security, protection of global environment and natural resources as well as the coexistence of humans and nature in harmony.

Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu made the remark Tuesday in Beijing at the 15th International Plant Protection Conference, which attracts over 2,000 delegates from about 50 countries and regions.

As a developing country with the largest population in the world and limited agricultural resources, China always attaches great importance to agriculture, he said.

China's grain production increase and accomplishing the task ofproviding adequate food and clothing for the people rely on robustsupport of agricultural technology and plant protection, he said.

China has for years paid great attention to scientific researchand technological renovation in plant protection, enhanced infrastructure construction and prevention capability in this regard, spread advanced technology and built effective systems to control pest disasters and protect plants, he said.

China will continue to enhance plant protection and actively participate in international exchanges and cooperation in this field, he said.
