Legislators study Constitution

Lawmakers from provincial-level people's congresses across the country attended a special workshop in Shanghai, east China, Tuesday, to study the Constitution and discuss ways to make legislature play a due role in implementing the fundamental law.

In an address at the workshop, Wang Zhaoguo, a vice chairman ofthe National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, urged leading officials of different levels and all central government staff to safeguard the authority of the Constitution and ensure the effective implementation of the Constitution.

People's congresses at different levels should step up the supervisory role to ensure the implementation of the Constitution and laws, said Wang, who is a a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

Other speakers included Chen Liangyu, Shanghai's Party chief and a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, and Sheng Huaren, a vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
