Former Australian diplomat hangs himself in Indonesian prison

A former Australian diplomat hanged himself in an Indonesian prison on Wednesday after he was sentenced to 13 years in jail for sexually abusing two underage boys in the resort island of Bali.

"Tony hanged himself, tying his neck with cloth he tore from the mattress in his bed," spokesman of Karangasem regency Gede Ngurah Yudiantara was quoted by state news agency Antara as saying.He referred to William Stuart Brown, 52, who was convicted by Karangasem district court on Tuesday.

Yudiantara said, Tony stayed in the cell alone, and workers in the prison noticed that he committed suicide on 07:00 a.m. of local time.

The former diplomat, who was also an English teacher in a senior high school in Karangasem, looked nervous when he attended in court on Tuesday.

The judge sentenced him for repeatedly sodomizing two boys from November 2003 to January 2004.
