Russia not to send more troops to Chechnya

Russia would not increase its military presence in Chechnya in the aftermath of the blast in Grozny that killed president of the Chechen Republic, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Tuesday.

"We consider the number and composition of the armed forces units and other security structures to be sufficient for the moment," said the minister.

In Chechnya, interior troops take care of the security in the plain area, while the federal troops with the mountainous area, they have made a series of achievements in recent campaigns, addedIvanov.

Also on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid an unexpected visit to Grozny and granted awards to the relatives of the killed local leaders.

Sunday's blast occurred underneath a VIP-seating area at the Dynamo stadium on Russia's Victory Day to mark the defeat of Nazi Germany in the World War II, killing at least seven people and wounding 57 others.
