Denmark will extend the mission of its troops in Iraq by six months, reports from the capital Copenhagen said on Wednesday.
It was agreed by the Danish coalition government and the opposition on that day.
The Social Democratic Party, the largest opposition in the parliament, put forward a precondition for the endorsement. They noted that the United States must transfer the governing power of Iraq to a transition authorities with UN approval in the first sixmonths of the year.
But the opposition did not support the proposal from Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen to increase the number of forces inIraq.
Last month, Rasmussen said his government had no plans to withdraw forces from the war-ravaged state.
Denmark supported the US-led war in Iraq and sent 496 troops there under British command in the southern cities of Basra and Qurnah.
