Cambodian PM reaffirms one-China policy

Prime Minister Hun Sen Friday reaffirmed Cambodia's firm stand on one-China policy, warning thatall Cambodian government officials should be very careful while meeting people from Taiwan.

"I suggested to Cambodian government officials, whether they are from Cambodian People's Party or FUNCINPEC party, to be very, very careful about the identity changing of some Taiwanese coming to Cambodia," Hun Sen told reporters following a regular cabinet meeting.

"Some Taiwanese are politicians but they hold plain citizen passports," he said. "We should not let such people to damage our one-China policy and destroy our traditional friendly relations with China nurtured and supported by our King and Chinese leaders."

Hun Sen said he had firmly rejected on Thursday a visit to Cambodia by a delegation of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce and a meeting with the chamber's so-called honorary head, who was actually an advisor to Taiwan's Chen Shui-bian authorities.

"We should not depend on donors or investments from Taiwan," the prime minister said, noting that China's sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected.
