NPC chairman meets Singaporean deputy PM

China's top legislator said Friday in Beijing that the National People's Congress (NPC) has kept friendlyexchanges and cooperative relations with the Parliament of Singapore in various levels.

The two sides also have been well coordinated and cooperated ininternational and regional parliamentary organizations, he said.

Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Wu Bangguo made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Friday.

Wu said bilateral relations between China and Singapore have enjoyed smooth development with frequent high-level visits and increasing exchanges between the two sides.

The two sides have not only identified key areas of cooperationbut also established a bilateral cooperation joint committee, which brings new opportunity for the development of bilateral relations, he said.

Not long ago the NPC Standing Committee, strictly following legal procedures, made interpretation over relevant regulations ofannexes to the Hong Kong Basic Law, and made decisions on relevantissues concerning constitutional development in Hong Kong, Wu said.

This serves the integral and long-term interest of the Hong Kong society, and is conducive to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Asia at large, he said, noting that the Hong Kong society in general made good reactions and the international society in general affirmed it.

Lee said the NPC Standing Committee's decision on relevant issues concerning constitutional development of Hong Kong abides by the Hong Kong Basic Law.

Singapore hopes that Hong Kong can maintain stability and prosperity, he stressed.
