Framework set for major cultural project

A national cultural project to last for about 10 years has got its framework pinned down after one and half a year's work since it launched in late 2002.

The "History of Qing Dynasty", a big series of books which is set to reflect all aspects of life in China's last dynasty, Qing (1644-1911), will consist of 92 volumes and more than 30 million Chinese characters, according to a national committee in charge of the compilation work.

The committee said on Saturday that the arrangement work for the contents has been pinned down in principle after scrutinizing and referring to writing methods of other traditional Chinese history books.

The "History of Qing Dynasty" will consist of five major parts respectively featuring major historical events, development of various industries, biography of celebrities, historical tables and pictures, which are expected to cover every social walks of Qing.

The committee said it had held various seminars which had involved some 700 experts and scholars and collected comments fromthe society through press and the Internet, in a bid to find a suitable style for the historical book.

Experts for the compilation work will be selected from candidates from both home and abroad, said the committee.
