Malaysia to maintain good relations with India: PMMalaysia would maintain its traditional good relations with India, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said on Saturday. Malaysia would work with the person who was chosen as the head of India's new Government, Abdullah told reporters when asked to comment on reports that the Indian National Congress Party Chief Sonia Gandhi was set to be India's next Prime Minister. "We will meet, discuss and work with whoever is chosen by the Congress to be the head of the Government of India and we will maintain our good relations with that country," Abdullah said. The Indian National Congress had elected Sonia Gandhi as its parliamentary chief paving the way for her election as Prime Minister. In India's national-elections, the Congress triumphed over the National Democratic Alliance led by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. Vajpayee resigned on Thursday following his Bharatiya Janati Party's defeat in the elections. Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said on Friday that Malaysia would keep normal bilateral ties with India despite the impending change of government in that country. Source: Xinhua |
