font size

Indian Prime Minister-elect Sonia Gandhi and her new government are likely to be sworn in on Wednesday after a hectic weekend sealing deals with allies and new partners.

Gandhi will meet President Abdul Kalam on Monday or Tuesday armed with letters of support from several parties to stake her claim to government.

A Congress official said the allies unanimously endorsed 57 year old Gandhi, as their choice for prime minister at a Sunday night meeting at her residence.
