Rural Policy Research Center formed

A research institution - China Rural Policy Research Center (CRPRC) which is dedicated to conforming domestic research resources and furnishing the government with scientific decision-making consultation in solving problems concerning agriculture, rural areas and farmers has been formed on May 15 at China Agricultural University.

Chen Xiwen, director-general of CRPRC, said on the founding ceremony that China is at the crucial phrase in the construction of a fairly affluent society. The all-round construction of a fairly affluent society is centered on the rural areas and work on agriculture, rural areas and farmers is the focal point of all works of the Party and the government. The founding of CRPRC can appropriately integrate the work on the economic research and policy research of China's rural development with the work on agricultural sciences and technologies. There are a great many of accomplished experts and scholars in sciences and technologies at China Agricultural University. They can make more direct and more efficient contribution to the advancement and development of China's agriculture.

Chen Zhangliang, president of CAU, said the tenet of the center is dedication to the systematic and comprehensive research on major issues that bear overall and strategic importance on agriculture, rural areas and farmers in order to provide China with theoretic support and policy-making consultation. The center is to develop on the principle of integrating both the research capability of CAU and outside research resources and integrating academic research and policy research; paying special attention to improving the research ability and the ability to solve practical problems of CAU. The goal of the center is to establish a research center on agriculture, rural areas and farmers, which is to have domestic and overseas influence, as well as a high-level personnel-training base.

Noted experts on agriculture in National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and some other departments under the State Council are among the first to be recruited. After the founding ceremony the first China Rural Areas Development Forum centering on the topic of increasing farmers' income and state grains security was held.
