China Netcom vs. CASChina Netcom and the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed an agreement in Beijing on May 16 to jointly incorporate Ke'ao Communication Technologies R&D Center. The new entity will concentrate on technological R&D and business innovation to make progress in information and communication technologies.Zhang Chunjiang, president of China Netcom, believes the center will make the advantages of Chinese Academy of Sciences complementary to those of his company and their joint efforts on innovation will result in further achievements.The number of broadband users in China has exceeded 10 million households. One of the main missions of the center is to provide technical support for China Netcom which is supposed to build an innovative network and communication platform for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. This is one of the steps to achieve "Digital Olympics". Hualong vs. NissinHualong Food and Noodle Industry from China and Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd. from Japan agreed to establish a joint venture which would be the largest noodle maker in China in terms of its investment scale.Hualong F&D, from Hebei Province, has become one of China¡¯s leading enterprise making agricultural products after 10 years' development. The scale and comprehensive strength of the business has expanded 1000 times since it was founded. It has 16 production bases around the country. In 2004, it will have 138 production lines for instant noodle in place.
