font size

Indian Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi will meet President A.P. J. Abdul Kalam Tuesday.

The Press Trust of India quoted senior Congress leader ManmohanSingh as saying, adding that Gandhi is going to meet the President Tuesday morning.

According to Indo-Asian News Service, President Kalam Monday invited Congress president Sonia Gandhi to discuss the formation of a new government.

An official communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, or the president office, issued Monday evening said that Kalam had noted that Gandhi "has been elected the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party" and had sent a letter to her, asking her to meet him Monday evening or Tuesday for discussions.

The communique said that Kalam had also noted that the Congress had emerged as the single largest party in the general election and that "this party in combination with its other pre-election allies constituted the largest political formation" in the Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian Parliament).
