11 Russian servicemen killed in Chechnya

Eleven Russian servicemen were killed by Chechen separatists in ambushes in rebellious Chechnya, Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday.

The rebels ambushed and opened fire at a police vehicle near the town of Alkhan-Yurt in Urus-Martan district Monday morning, a spokesman for the interior troops was quoted by Interfax as saying.

An armored troop carrier that went to the clash scene was hit by the mine planted in advance and came under fire from the rebels.

According to Itar-Tass, eight soldiers and three policemen werekilled in the ambushes while another one was missing.
