World Economic Forum closes at Jordan's Dead Sea resort

The World Economic Forum (WEF) was wrapped up at the Jordanian Dead Sea resort of Shuneh Monday afternoon.

King Abdullah II said in his closing speech that "the last three days have been quite extraordinary and witnessed a process to turnthe thoughts of entrepreneurs and leaders into action that will benefit our region and our world."

Abdullah, the forum's host, said the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians continued to be "the main impetus for action" inthe region.

"We must bring justice for the Palestinians. We must offer security for the Israelis," he said.

He also called on Arab government and civic leaders to draft aprogram of action over the next few months to "articulate practicalsteps and concrete policies that must be implemented by governments to effect positive change."

"It will build on present initiatives and will offer tangible effects that will be understood and appreciated by the people ofthe region," added the king.

Around 1,000 delegates from 51 countries took part in the forum,which witnesses intense debates on Arab reforms, Iraq and the Middle East conflict.
