US invites six African leaders to G8 summit
font size

US President George W. Bush has invited leaders of Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Uganda to the G8 summit, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said in a statement on Tuesday.

"President Bush's invitation to the African leaders emphasizes the important relationships which the United States and the rest of the G8 have with Africa," McClellan said.

Bush will discuss topics ranging from famine, food security, peacekeeping, disarmament to AIDS and corruption with the African leaders, McClellan said.

The G8, which groups the United States, Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Russia, is to hold a summit meeting on June 8-10 at the Sea Island resort in the southern US state of Georgia.
