font size

Shanghai is ready for the annual battle for the invasion of floods, as this year's flood season begins from June 1, local flood prevention headquarters said on May 18.

The city will prevent the floods with its sea embankment, riverbank, regional water flogging distribution system and the citywide drainage system, according to the headquarters. Because of Shanghai's geological condition, typhoon, rainstorms, flood and upper-river water supply are liable to jointly hit the city in the summer reason and cause huge damages.

To the flood prevention facility since 1949, the city has invested about 30

billion yuan (US$3.6 million), said Shanghai water authority.
