All-China Youth Federation supports May 17 statement on cross-Straits ties

All-China Youth Federation (ACYF) and hundreds of millions of youths across China have voiced their support to the central government's recent statement and policies on the Taiwan issue and vow to work for the reunification of the country, said ACYF Chairman Zhao Yong Thursday.

The Chinese youths are in firm opposition to the separatist words and deeds of Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian and the "Taiwan Independence" activities and will never allow anybody to resort to any means to split China.

In the talks pertaining to the statement issued by the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council on Monday and a series of relevant policies on Taiwan issue, he cited it as a crucial statement to guide the current struggle against "Taiwan independence".

During his past four-year tenure of office, Zhao recalled, Chen Shui-bian has spared no effort to challenge the status quo that "both the mainland and Taiwan belong to the one and same China". He even set a time schedule for "Taiwan Independence" through a referendum for a "new constitution", pushing the cross-Straits relations to the brink of danger.

"Chen's behaviors openly challenge China's sovereign and territorial integrity and the one-China principle which has been recognized by the international community," Zhao noted.

To accomplish the reunification of China, added Zhao, concerns the basic interests and benefits of all the Chinese people including the Taiwan compatriots and represents the common aspiration of all the Chinese people both at home and abroad.

"We earnestly admonish Taiwan authorities not to underestimate the resolve and mighty of the entire Chinese people to defend the unity of the motherland," said Zhao.

Any "Taiwan Independence" move is doomed to complete failure, said the youth federation leader.

As the youths are future masters across the straits, the hope of the Chinese nation and the important force to advanced cross-strait relations and revitalize the nation, acknowledged Zhao, it is most pressing tasks for the young people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits to work to stop the separatist activities of "Taiwan Independence" and safeguard the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, acknowledged Zhao.

"We are ready to work along with the Taiwan youths to advance the cooperative exchanges between the young people across the Straits, safeguard China's unity and national dignity, and strive for peaceful reunification of the country," said Zhao. No hardships and barriers could shake to the slightest the Chinese youth's stance for one-China principle and their resolve to defend the national sovereign and territorial integrity.
