US President George W. Bush will lay out details of the US plan for the Iraq transition at a major speech on Monday, the Washington Post said in a report on Thursday.

Beginning with Monday's address at the Army War College, Bush will give a major speech on Iraq every week through June 30, when the US-led coalition is due to turn over limited sovereignty to a new interim Iraqi government, the report said.

"Some speeches will have more details than others, and will be given at different places and times. All have the important goal of explaining the essential tasks at hand and the significance of June 30," the report quoted an anonymous White House official as saying.

The move is aimed at countering mounting public anxiety over the escalating violence and uncertainty less than six weeks before the handover of political power to Iraq, the report said.

Iraq's security situation was further clouded when Iraqi Governing Council Chairman Izzadine Salim was killed on Monday in a bomb attack just near the US-led coalition headquarters.
