Taiwan share prices closed up 2.57 percent with a thinner trade volume Friday.
The weighted index, key barometer of Taiwan Stock Exchange (TAIEX), rose 149.61 points to close at 5,964.94.
The bourse opened at 5,836.08 and fluctuated between 5,993.28 and 5,805.72 during trading.
A total of 4.99 billion shares changed hands on a market turnover of 108.67 billion new Taiwan dollars (3.23 billion US dollars), a decrease from the previous day's trading session that saw 5.11 billion shares traded on a market turnover of 109.31 billion new Taiwan dollars.
All of the eight major stock categories gained ground, with construction stocks moving up the most at 6.2 percent, followed bypulp and paper issues at 5.6 percent, cement stocks at 4.9 percent, textile issues at 3.8 percent, bank and insurance sharesand electrical shares both at 2.5 percent, foodstuff stocks at 2.2percent, and plastics and chemical shares at 1.2 percent.
Gainers outnumbered losers 843 to 55, with 73 stocks remaining unchanged.
