China's second team of peacekeepers to the west African nation of Liberia, composed of 20 policemen, will set off on next Tuesday, according to sources from the Ministry of Public Security on Friday.
China sent its first batch of peacekeepers to Liberia last November, and both dispatches are at the request of the United Nations.
The 20 peacekeepers, including two females, come from 15 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and all have passed English, driving and shooting tests administered by UN peacekeeping officials. Five of them have participated in peacekeeping missions before.
In the past five years, the Chinese government has sent 253 police to participate in UN peacekeeping missions, including operations in East Timor, Afghanistan and Kosovo.
"They have shown the world a good image of Chinese police via their performances in the missions, which also demonstrates China's love for peace and our resolution to maintain peace," said an official with the ministry.
