Avoiding one-China principle Chen Shui Bian shows no good intention: Taiwanese ScholarOn May 20, Chen Shui Bian held an "inauguration ceremony" at Taipei and delivered speech. Scholars in Taiwan say they cannot see his sincerity to improve the cross-Straits relations. What Chen just clung to is "Taiwan Independence" separatist stance. What he did was just playing on words. So crisis still exists in the future four years. Guarded by 15,000 policemen and military policemen, the "inauguration ceremony" was held in the voice of protests from the opposition party. On May 20, the opposition party assembled at Taipei, where they raised strong doubts about the "legitimacy" of Chen's inauguration. Despite the rain, around 10,000 protestors gathered together. They shouted, "We want truth", "unfair election" and "election invalid" to protest Chen Shui Bian's "inauguration". At the ceremony, Chen read a speech of 5, 000 words, in which he mentioned the cross-Straits relations and "Constitutional Reform". The scholars in Taiwan noticed that he avoided the "one China" principle and hided his "Taiwan Independence" separatist stance by honey words. As interviewed by correspondent of the Xinhua News Agency, Nan Fangshuo, a famous political critic in Taiwan said one couldn't perceive any prospect of improved cross-Straits relations in Chen's speech. Compared with the "May 17 Statement" issued by the Office for Taiwan Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, it is not difficult to see one-China principle is not in Chen's logics. Therefore talking about "Peaceful, stable and interactive structure for cross-straits" obviously lacks sincerity. Four years ago, Chen made commitments of "five no's" and he expressed his "good intentions" again and again, but he ruined his integrity by defiance of "Taiwan Independence" repeatedly. This time Chen said "policy and commitments" of four years ago remain unchanged, but he didn't even mention his so-called "five no's". Instead, he talked "Taiwan's status as entity ", "rebuild of country community" at length. Under pressure, he played on words. But apparently, he didn't stop his steps towards "Taiwan Independence". This helps the people understand his inconsistency between words and deeds. Chen has no integrity at all. What he will do in the future deserves people's observation, says Wang Xiaobo, a professor of philosophy with the Taiwan University. Protests continued in different venues after the "inauguration".
