font size

The heir to the Spanish crown, Prince Felipe de Borbon, and the reporter Letizia Ortiz were married Saturday at the Almudena Cathedral in the capital Madrid.

Felipe de Borbon and Letizia Ortiz exchanged vows in the altar before Madrid's Archbishop Antonio Maria Rouco Varela.

The wedding was attended by Felipe's parents, the kings of Spain, and the parents of Letizia, as well as foreign guests, including heads of state of some Latin American countries and members of the royal families of different countries.

With the marriage, Letizia Ortiz became the Princess of Asturias, a title she shares with Prince Felipe.

The wedding ceremony was celebrated amid strict security measures to avoid any terror attacks.

Felipe and Letizia will succeed the king and queen of Spain, Juan Carlos de Borbon and Sofia.
