font size

Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa said Saturday that Hong Kong's SARS prevention efforts have successfully prevented a reoccurrence of the disease this year.

He made the remarks after meeting Legislative Council SARS Select Committee members at the Government House. Tung said he has attached great importance to the group work.

He explained in detail the government's challenges and efforts in combating SARS last year. He also answered questions raised by the members of the Legislative Council.

Tung said the battle against SARS has been a painful experience and through the process people learned a lesson -- better equipped to prevent any reoccurrence.

He said the world can see Hong Kong's efforts have yielded a good result.

Tung urged the Legislative Council members to help monitor the implementation of measures on SARS prevention.
