Regional ethnic autonomy accords with interests of Tibetans

A Tibetan native on Monday said that only if Tibetans adhere to the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the socialist road with Chinese characteristics and the regional ethnic autonomy system, could their fundamental interests be realized, maintained and developed.

Redi, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress, made the remark when commenting on the white paper, titled "Regional Ethnic Autonomy in Tibet", which was released on Sunday by the Information Office of the State Council, or the central Chinese government.

He said regional ethnic autonomy, as one of the country's fundamental political systems, plays as a crucial requirement for various ethnicities to safeguard unity and to realize common prosperity, as well as an important part for China's democratic political construction and political civilization construction.

Over the nearly past half century, Tibet has moved towards brightness and progress from darkness and backwardness, towards affluence and democracy from poverty and secludedness, thanks for the implementation of the policy of regional ethnic autonomy and the leadership of the central government, according to Redi.

He added that Tibet's social system has undergone a historical leap and its social look has experienced earth-shaking changes.

"I myself experienced two diametrically different social systems in Tibet and personally witnessed Tibet's peaceful liberation and democratic reform, as well as the establishment and development of the regional ethnic autonomy," said Redi. "I also participated in the practice of the policy of the regional ethnic autonomy."

He said decades of practice has proven that China's regional ethnic autonomy system constitutes the fundamental guarantee for the Tibetan people as masters of their own destiny, is completely in compliance with the reality of Tibet and represents the fundamental interests of various ethnicities in Tibet.

He went on to say that the great achievements scored by Tibet after the implementation of the regional ethnic autonomy system, is the successful model of China's solutions for ethnic issues and a full representation of the superiority of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Historical facts have told a truth to Tibetan people, that is, only if Tibetans keep to the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the socialist road with Chinese characteristics and the regional ethnic autonomy system, could their fundamental interests be materialized, maintained and developed and Tibet's prolonged stability and further development be guaranteed, acknowledged Redi.

The white paper enunciated the great cause of the establishment and development of the regional ethnic autonomy system in Tibet, comprehensively and objectively showcased Tibet's political, economic, cultural and social achievements since its implementation of the regional ethnic autonomy system and strongly renounced the fallacy released by the separatist clique, he said.

The white paper has great realistic meaning for reinforcing and developing the regional ethnic autonomy system and for elsewhere in the world to learn of the genuine Tibet, Redi said.
