Sun Yingjie storms to women's 10,000m victory in Olympic trials

World bronze medalist Sun Yingjie snatched the women's 10,000 meters title in the final day of the Chinese athletics Olympic trials in Shijiazhuang, North China's Hebei Province on May 23.

The 25-year-old Sun, who finished third in the event at last year's world championships in Paris, clocked 31 minutes 50.90 seconds.

Xing Huina, who beat Sun to win the 5,000m on Thursday and alsotriumphed in Friday's 1,500m, came second in 32:48.28.

The third place went to Zhou Chunxiu in 33:15.28.

The world record of the event is 29:31.78, set by China's Wang Junxia in the 1993 National Games in Beijing.

"This is first time for me to run this event in the past six months. And I am very satisfied with the time," Sun said.

Sun, China's most successful female long distance runner after "Ma's Family Army" named after coach Ma Junren, has just recoveredfrom a collarbone injury.

She competed in the London Marathon last month but as the second quickest marathon runner in history, she finished a distant7th.

In the women's 200m, Asian record holder Li Xue won the title in 23.17 seconds. Qi Haifeng, who finished eighth in last year's world championships, collected 7,789 points to win the men's decathlon.
