Mexican president vows stability despite explosions
font size

Mexican President Vicente Fox vowed on May 24 that his government would continue to guarantee the country's stability after explosions on May 23 that rocked three banks in the Morelos state.

After meeting officials of the Central Bank of Mexico, Fox said, "We will ensure stability and tranquility continue in the country."

Low-power bombs rocked three banks in the town of Jiutepec, Morelos state, early Sunday. The blasts heavily damaged the fronts of the branches of Bancomer, Banamex and Santander Serfin, but caused no casualties.

A group calling itself "the Comando Jaramillista Morelense 23 de Mayo" left a note near the explosion sites, criticizing President Fox and asking for the departure of Sergio Estrada, governor of the Morelos state.

Fox said he hoped the explosion "is an isolated and exclusive incident, centered on Morelos," and said the authorities were working on this case.
