Senior CPC official meets Japanese guests

Senior Party leader Wu Guanzheng said Tuesday that relations between China and Japan had developed smoothly since the normalization of the diplomatic ties and should be cherished.

Wu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark at a meeting with Mataichi Seiji, secretary general of the Japanese Social Democratic party (SDP), and his delegation.

He said that under the new international and regional situation, both China and Japan should take the relationship from the general perspective to build up new-type relations characterized by friendliness, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win.

The two countries should observe the three political documents between them, and properly handle the issues left over by history and the Taiwan issue in accordance with the principle of learning from history and facing up to the future, he said.

Wu said he appreciated the SDP's adherence to the correct stance on these issues, saying that the CPC will further the relations with all political parties in Japan, including the SDP.

Mataichi Seiji said that the correct awareness of history is necessary for Japan-China relations. Both Japan and China should work for the healthy development of bilateral relations in line with the principle of learning from history and facing up to the future.

The SDP always adheres to the one-China stance and hold the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, he said, adding that the SDP will enhance the friendly relations with the CPC.
