China's NPSs to launch into commercial operation next year
font size

Kang Rixin, general manager of China National Nuclear Corporation, said on May 24 all China's nuclear power stations are expected to launch into commercial operation by the end of 2005 on the premise of security, so as to further reduce nuclear power operation costs and enhance nuclear power competitiveness.

Kang Rixin said, during Talks On China Nuclear Industry Internationalization Development Strategy organized by China Beijing International High-tech Expo, China's first group of nuclear power stations have launched into commercial operation for more than ten years. During these years they discharged an amount of radioactive effluent and solid waste far below the control level prescribed by the government. The radiation level of the environment has been kept at natural background level. The operation of nuclear power stations has had no negative impact on the environment, which means China's NPS construction is a successful operation and is both safe and reliable.

He said as for now the installed gross capacity of China's nuclear power has reached 8.7 million kilowatt. There are altogether six nuclear power stations and eleven nuclear power units. By 2003 China's nuclear power generation had reached 43.7 billion kilowatt - 64.8 percent higher than the previous year, accounting for two thirds of the national electricity generation.
