As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, isolation of the area polluted by a mustard gas cylinder, which was found at a construction site in Qiqihar City of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Monday, has ended after the area was thoroughly disinfected.

The local residents had also resumed their daily lives.

At about 6 p.m. Monday, the Qiqihar City Police Department received a report saying that an iron cylinder with a pungent smell was found in a construction site that covered an area of 840 square meters.

The poison was confirmed by chemical experts from the Shenyang Military Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Tuesday as mustard gas

left by the Japanese intruding troops during World War II.

Fortunately, no poisoning symptoms were found among eight locals, who had closely approached the cylinder and were suspected of being poisoned by the mustard gas, after they received 12 hours of medical checkup in a local hospital.
