Rainstorms kill at least 172 people in Haiti

Rainstorms killed at least 172 people in the last hours in different localities of Haiti, local authorities said Tuesday.

Representative Harry Marffan said that "between the localities of Torbecky Tiburon, in the southern coast, 20 people died drowned," reports from Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince said.

Civil Defense authorities said that about 152 people died in different southeastern localities.

The floods also destroyed agriculture in the affected area, andthus a shortage is now expected to affect the local market in the following days.
