Not just at Real Madrid to sell shirts: Beckham
font size

England captain David Beckham claims his first season at Real Madrid was a success, even though the club finished without a single trophy for the first time since 1999.

Beckham said at England's Euro 2004 training camp in Sardinia, Italy, that he showed he wasn't just at Real Madrid to sell shirts, but that he could play as well.

Beckham reiterated he would stay with Madrid, despite the change of manager. Carlos Queiroz, who also worked with Beckham at Manchester United, was fired Monday and replaced by Jose Antonio Camacho.

Beckham also said he was confident England could win Euro 2004, which runs June 12 to July 4 in Portugal.

Beckham moved to the Spanish giant last June after nine years at Manchester United. The English midfielder started well, but his form dipped near the end of the season.
