Myanmar establishes diplomatic ties with Sudan

Myanmar has established diplomatic ties with Sudan at ambassadorial level, official newspaper the NewLight of Myanmar reported Thursday.

The agreement for the move was signed by the ambassadors of thetwo countries in New York on May 20, it said.

The establishment has brought the total number of countries with which Myanmar has diplomatic ties to 91.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Myanmar has so far set up embassies in 30 countries and two permanent missions in New York and Geneva, and three consulate-general in China's Hong Kong and Kunming and India's Calcutta respectively.

Meanwhile, there are 27 countries having their embassies in Myanmar. In addition, China and India have respectively set up consulates-general in Myanmar's Mandalay, while Bangladesh has onein Sittway.
