Sonia Gandhi elected leader of India's UPA

The ruling Congress-led coalition Wednesday finalized the Common Minimum Program for governance and elected Congress party president Sonia Gandhi as the chairperson of its coordination committee.

The meeting of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), which lasted about four hours, broadly agreed on the agenda for governance listed in the Common Minimum Program.

The document will be released Thursday, Indo-Asian News Servicereported.

Leaders of Left parties, who are extending support from outsideto the coalition government, attended the meeting held at prime minister Manmohan Singh's office at 7 Race Course Road, New Delhi,but decided not to be signatories to the program.
