font size

The international expo to be held in 2010 in Shanghai would boost world poverty reduction undertakings, said Vicente Loscertales, secretary-general of the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) Thursday in Shanghai.

Inspecting the preparation of Expo 2010 Shanghai, Loscertales said the theme of the expo "Better city better life" exemplified people's wills against poverty and for a better life.

He said the Expo 2010 would bring a prosperous Shanghai to the world, where all countries, especially the underdeveloped ones could exchange their experience on economic development and poverty alleviation.

Loscertales said the Chinese government promised to provide totally 100 million US dollar financial aids to those who came to the expo, which would attract more poverty-stricken countries to the activity.

He said the successful hosting of the Global Conference on Scaling Up Poverty Reduction proved that China boasted world's best public security, which was rather precious when terrorism was rampant in the world.
