The Fifth Western China International Exposition ended Thursday in this capital city of southwestern Sichuan Province, after achieving better than expected trade results.

The three-day trade fair, an annual trade event, snatched a contractual value of 48.23 billion yuan (5.8 billion US dollars), an all time high. The on-the-spot transactions gained a trade value of 730 million yuan (88 million US dollars).

The current fair featured cooperation between western China and Southeast Asian countries, the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta.

More than 8,000 business people from 48 countries and regions came to the fair, believed the largest of its kind. The fair has become an international event comprising trade, investment and economic talks and forums, said Jiang Jufeng, vice-governor of Sichuan Province.
